How does the infrared produced by Thermotex work?
As the infrared energy penetrates, it safely and gently heats the tissues and blood within the affected area. The body’s natural response to this increased temperature is to try to maintain a condition of homeostasis—a balanced environment or state of equilibrium throughout the body.

To do this, the body responds with a rapid increase in blood flow to the area. The blood vessels actually increase in diameter, a change called vasodilation, and allow oxygen and nutrients in the bloodstream to pass through the walls more easily—and to start to regenerate the damaged cells and tissues. In the same way, toxic substances in the damaged cells can also pass back into the bloodstream more easily, to be filtered and eliminated by organs such as the kidneys, lungs, and digestive tract. As the damaged or inflamed area receives this increased supply of blood, the cells are nourished and cleansed and you experience an actual reduction in pain.

What are the physical properties of infrared?
Infrared energy is below (hence the term "infra") the visible portion of the light spectrum represented by a range of widths of wavelength in the electromagnetic spectrum divided into 3 segments and measured in microns or micrometers (one micron = 1/1,000,000 of a meter):

Is FAR infrared a safe source of radiant energy and how does it actually affect me?

Our bodies naturally radiate and absorb infrared energy through the skin at 3 - 50 microns with a concentration of energy output at 9.4 microns. How does Thermotex differ from a conventional heating pad?

1. Thermotex infrared energy has been clinically shown to radiate heat to depths of penetration of 6 cm or 2.36 inches. Heating pads, which provide topical, conductive heat only penetrate (2 – 3 mm).
2. Thermotex infrared provides a relatively cool energy conveyance with conductive temperatures of between 40?C - 49?C (104?F - 120?F), the optimum temperature range for vasodilation. Conventional heating pads are often in excess of 55?C (131?F). Thermotex products will not burn or dehydrate/dry the skin.

Has there been any research done on your product?

Can you use Thermotex on broken bones?
We have had several customers tell us how both they and their doctors felt Thermotex helped to speed up the healing process of broken bones. We are in the process of exploring possibilities to set up randomized trials though it is very difficult to make comparisons since no two individuals or fractures are the same. Efficient bone healing requires oxygen and so using Thermotex through the cast for the recommended treatment time of 30 – 45 minutes, may help to optimise the fracture healing process. Certain well known footballers have used oxygen rich environments to try help the healing process with this objective in mind.
